Proverbs 16:32 -“He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, he who rules his own spirit than he who takes a city.”
Solomon, who actually ruled over many of these cities, concluded that it was better to be patient than powerful, and that it was more important to have self-control than to rule a city. Many people aspire to have power, influence, and riches, but how many seek the kind of self-control of which Solomon spoke?
How do we develop this kind of control? one of the most important steps to realize that God has given us the opportunity to make choices. We can choose to obey Him, or reject Him, to do His will or go our own way, or to follow the Spirit or our flesh.
The Bible reminds us that each of us has limits but that His Holy Spirit is available to help us. In fact, Paul wrote that self-control is a fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:23).
Today, ask God to help you have the kind o self-control you need to lead a victorious life. Fill your mind with His Word, and seek to apply it in your life. Submit your life to Him, and seek to be guided by His Spirit.
Prayer: Father, I surrender my life to You right now. Help me to have self-control I need. Fill me with Your Spirit. I need You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
